The Institute of Traditional Karate associates with several different tournament circuits throughout Australia, these include Australian Martial Arts Championships, National All Styles, International Sports Karate Association and also tournaments run by the IOGKF.
These tournaments are optional and are in no way forced upon students. Tournaments are a great way to build self confidence and also great fun for all ages.
Tournaments have a large variety of divisions such as Hard and Soft Kata (Forms), Demonstration, Non contact point sparring, Non contact free sparring, Full contact sparring with head guard and gloves and also Bare knuckle full contact for the correctly trained and conditioned.
All students who wish to compete must prove to the instructor that they are mentally and physically prepared for this. Students from the age of 4 years old are able to compete.
The Institute of Traditional Karate has trained several regional, state, national and international champions in all age groups and is a highly respected dojo on the many tournament circuits throughout Australia.
Sensei Paul Parlett has won the 2007 New South Wales and 2006 ACT National All Styles State Championships, Australian IOGKF Open Black Belt Championships in both Kata and Sparring, 2008 Australian Bare Knuckle Championships (by knock out), Asian Pacific Kata and Sparring championships just to name a few. So if you want to be a champion, get trained by one.
Do not be misled by instructors who claim to have won championships, if in doubt, please contact me or a senior grade from the organization they are associated with. Sadly there are instructors out there claiming to have won championships that never happened to mislead potential students.
